Seamen's Club |
|
 |
|
| Brunsbüttel is a port of call for many ships. But
did you know it also has a lay-by berth for seamen? Let's explain:
Off-duty crew members often like to go ashore to have a little walk
about town. They like to have ice-cream in a sidewalk café or
a beer in a bar – something like that. But one doesn't always
want to spend money or feel obliged to consume. Then you can head
for the "lay-by-berth", the Seamen's Club. No need to spend or
consume there. It is the right place to relax. |
|
| You can play a round
of billards or darts, put up your legs in front of the TV and have a
cup of coffee. There are books in many languages. In summer you can
sit in the garden and talk with collegues from other ships or
practive basketball or play ping pong. It is all for free. |

|
| In our little shop
you can buy a cold soft drink or a beer and there odds and ends like
sweets and toiletries at modest prices. |
|
| Of course there is
always somebody there to talk to and to ask advice about this or
that. This is apart of our boss, the deacon, who always has an open
ear and mind for anyone's little worries or great problems. He is an
experienced man with a family of his own who has spent many years
abroad. |
|
| In addition to all
this we run a little transportation service with our minibus picking
up people at the ship and taking them back. This is quite important.
Since the current security regulations came into effort not all of
Brunsbüttel's berths are accessible by feet. |
